The Story......
As a boy growing up in Europe, traveling by train was a favorite pleasure. Lulled by the powerful rhythm of the locomotive, we’d rumble through mountain passes and green valleys, skirting small family vineyards along the way. Years later, managing a St. Helena winery with a spur track alongside the cellar, I was reminded of the early days in America’s wine legacy - when Napa Valley wine was transported across our nation by rail. Napa Station pays tribute to the great American heritage of Napa Valley wines - and the promise of their future. This winery is a true family endeavor. My son Peter II and I work side by side, dedicated to producing top quality wines with fruit sourced exclusively from sustainably-farmed Napa Valley vineyards. The way we see it, native cover crops, natural pest predators and limited irrigation not only preserve our resources, they also produce the best grapes, and in turn, superior wines. Bringing you wines of top quality and great value, Napa Station is a classic Napa Valley winery with an unpretentious nature. To your health! Napa Station was founded by the Huwiler family, and owned and operated by Peter K. Huwiler and his son, Peter II. Peter K. Huwiler with his dog Cody “Growing up in Europe, it was natural for me to consider food and wine an integral part of a healthy life,” says Peter. He launched a thriving group of restaurants before accepting a key position with Washington’s Stimson Lane Winery (now Ste. Michelle Wine Estates). The move gave him the perfect opportunity to learn about the U.S. wine industry first-hand - and to spend more time with his wife and children. In 1990, Peter was tapped by Kendall-Jackson to develop the California winery’s national accounts and export programs. Seven years later, he was wooed away by Napa Valley’s Merryvale Vineyards where he served as CEO for 11 years. “Coming to the U.S. was the opportunity of a lifetime and I’ve been very lucky to build my career in an industry I enjoy so much,” he says. “I understand what distributors, wine shops, restaurateurs and consumers are looking for in Napa Valley wine, and Napa Station brings my dream of building a sustainable future with my son to life.” Peter serves as President and CEO of Napa Station, overseeing all aspects of vineyard management, winemaking, sales and marketing. Peter K. Huwiler II “I got my passion for food and wine from my Dad,” he says. “I’ve always looked up to him and learned as much as I could from him.” In the Huwiler household, wine is food, and Peter II came to understand that first-hand as he got older. He worked with acclaimed Chefs Kaspar Donnier and Ludger Szamania in Seattle and later for key wine distributors in Southern California and Washington State. Working in the wine industry at the same time as his father, Peter II was able to glean far more than most. “Dad’s got great business savvy and working on our own brand together is the best of all worlds,” he adds. With three young children, Peter II is truly dedicated to sustainability and is committed to using green practices. “It’s important to me to keep our land, vineyards and winery healthy for many, many generations to come.” Peter II focuses primarily on sales and public relations, hosting wine dinners, working with chefs on food and wine pairing.
